Panoramic view of the very colorful city of Quanajuato, Mexico. Note one of the local silver mines in the upper left hand portion of this image. Silver mines dotted the hills above Guanajuato and were largely responsible for the oppulent churches, residences and opera houses shown below in this image. Guanajuato is known for its extensive tunnel system used for transportation within the city. These tunnels were developed from efforts to control the highly toxic effluents and massive floods emminating from these silver mines. The extensive tunnel system is hauntingly mesmerizing.
